Applied Kinesiology chiropractic (AK)

Updated: Aug 13, 2022

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a recognized form of therapy (and a registered trademark of the International College of Applied Kinesiology - ICAK) that assesses the structural, chemical and mental aspects of health using manual muscle tests in combination with other standard diagnostic methods. Applied kinesiology is an alternative medical diagnosis and treatment concept from the field of body therapy and chiropractic, which uses the muscle test to detect physical and psychological blockages, with the aim of tackling health and mental problems of all kinds, solving them and balancing energies.

The human being can be viewed holistically on all levels. Kinesiology means "the teaching of movement" and is based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. It is based on the basic idea that people have healing powers within themselves. Activating these self-healing powers promotes the healing process and inner balance.

The muscle test is not a test of strength, but serves as a means of communication that gives us feedback on what is blocking the flow of energy.

Applied kinesiology is a non - invasive system for evaluating body function that is unique in the healing arts. The aim of applied kinesiology is to restore the balance between structural, chemical and mental factors that combine to form a "triad of health".

Applied kinesiology has its roots in the work of chiropractor George Goodheart. Dr. Goodheart began muscle testing in the 1960s to assess muscle strength or injury related to postural disorders. It is an integration of techniques and principles from Eastern and Western medicine, including traditional Chinese medicine, chiropractic, and the science of muscle movement. Dr. Goodheart soon found that muscles dramatically improve function in response to a wide variety of touch reflexes, including acupuncture points and meridians.
